The current trend in green building design is to integrate ideas starting from the Designer level to the Consumer level. It involves use of less energy intensive materials, passive solar principles, day lighting features, integration of renewable energy technology, conservation of water, waste management and waste treatment, rainfall harvesting and use of energy efficient appliances.

INDIAN CONTEXT –  In spite of a large information base available on these features, and despite pioneering work in this field all over the world and in India, the Energy conscious design approach is not very widespread. Moreover, it is marred by the false impression of heavy additional costs and very slow payback period.
